Flowers make us happy - Dan Cooper

Posted by Alice White on

Dan Cooper, aka The Frustrated Gardner, a self confessed plant-a-holic tells us which flower makes him happy any why.

"Right now I'd have to choose Anemone coronaria 'De Caen'. I usually go for exotic, unusual flowers. These are neither, although they come from warmer, sunnier climes than the UK.

I love the simplicity of the flowers, the vivid, velvety brightness of each petal held in place by a boss of dark, mascaraed stamens. Nothing could improve them. Anemones also remind me of Cornwall where they are cultivated as cut flowers and sold in bunches at the front gate. Whenever I see them in a florist I have to buy several bunches, massing them in a cut-glass vase like my granny did. Their jazzy colours make my heart sing."
