Flowers make us happy - Clare Harris

Posted by Alice White on

Founder and Director of Talking Tables, Clare is a keen gardener and a life-long lover of flowers.

Flowers play a key role in Clare’s life, from her wonderful garden in Gloucestershire, to the cut flowers she adds to her tablescapes. The bright colours of her garden are reflected in floral prints in her home, and many of her best-selling products feature colourful floral designs.

“I have many favourite flowers, the majority associated with the revealing of spring, from the small tete-a-tete daffodil, to my more blousy tulips in pots by the front door.

In my garden right now, my favourite flower is the humble Welsh Poppy. It captures the spirit of my garden well: a somewhat naturalistic landscape with tones of yellow set against multiple shades of green. The Welsh Poppy is a stoic bright little flower: happy to settle in sun or shade, spreading itself easily around and flowering on in its vivid colours until late summer. It makes me happy because its nodding head, delicate petals and cheery colours come into view in so many places around the garden where it has decided to place itself without any intervention by me.”
